Rosa Zingone is the daughter of   Francesco Zingone & Saveria Chiapetta

 

I have had contact with several branches of the Zingone family in the United States and Argentina.  My family also has a link to this surname of Montalto Uffugo.  As a result, I have decided to create this page in an attempt to help myself and others understand their Zingone connection.  My greatest hope would be to connect long lost family across many countries.  If you have a connection to the Zingone family, please email me in English, Spanish or Italian.  If you do email me in Italian or Spanish, it may take a week to respond while I get your email translated. 

It seems in Argentina the surname Zingone is known as Zingoni. 

I will include all Zingone records I have on this page.  I am working on expanding the Zingone birth, marriage and death records at this time.

MY ZINGONE FAMILY CONNECTION

My grandfather was Giuseppe Napolitano.  His father was Domenico Enrico Napolitano. He was called Enrico by family and friends. Enrico had many brothers and sisters.  His eldest sister was Carolina Concetta Napolitano, who was born in November, 1845.  In October, 1862 Carolina married Costantino Zingone. Costantino, born in February, 1832 was the son of Francesco Zingone and Angela Lambre.  I do not have birth dates on Francesco and Angela but I do have copies of their death acts.  Francesco died in 1841 and Angela died in 1862.  Francesco was the son of Tomasso Zingone (born about 1770, died in 1840) and Teresa Lambre (she also died in 1840) .  Francesco died when his son Costantino was only 8 or 9 years old. 

CHILDREN OF COSTANTINO ZINGONE & CAROLINA NAPOLITANO

So far in my research I have found 8 of their children through the birth records. I beleive I will find more. So far their children that I have found are:

  Fidele, born October, 1863

Giuseppe, born 1872

Giuseppe, born 1874

Achille, born December, 1876

Filomena Rosa, born July, 1879

Francesco, born 1882

Maria Concetta, born 1883

Francesco, born 1886

So far, this is all I have.  As you can see by the huge gaps in ages, I am missing some of the children. The largest gap is between 1863 and 1872. I am certain they had children during this time and hope to find them soon. 

So far, I have not found the death record of Costantino.  Carolina died in 1908.  So far, I have no other information on their children.  I am sure the marriage records will tell me more.

ZINGONE'S IN ARGENTINA

I understand there are many descendants of the Zingone's in Argentina.  As you can see from the picture at the top of this page, Rosa Zingone immigrated to Argentina with her father, Francesco Zingone (son of  Domenico) and her mother, Saveria Chiapetta.

Francesco Zingone & Saveria Chiapetta

Francesco Zingone, born about 1872 (according to his daughter's birth record) was the son of Domenico Zingone and Angela Pantano.  I have a birth record here for a Francesco Zingone born to the same parents from 1868.  This could be the same Francesco pictured above or his brother who was born and died before.  It was a common practice in Italy to name the next child after a deceased sibling.

Saveria Chiapetta was born in Marano Marchesato a nearby town. Saveria was the daughter of Antonio Chiapetta and Carolina Tenuta.  Her father Antonio was a  shepherd.  Saveria was born in 1870 or 1871.  Francesco Zingone and Saveria Chiapetta were married in 1892.

Since Saveria and her family were from Marano Marchesato, I cannot trace her roots back any further, however,  I know extracts of the records of Marano Marchesato are available on another website.  You can view that website here.

  Francesco Zingone and Saveria Chiapetta  immigrated to Argentina in the early 1900's with Francesco's . 

 

 

IMMIGRATION OF ZINGONE'S FROM MONTALTO UFFUGO TO THE UNITED STATES

 

I had a difficult time finding Zingone's immigrating to the United States.  Finally after figuring out how to search by town name alone (with the help of a man on Gente di Mare), I found some!  Most had their names spelled wrong. Here I will give some information on who I found.

 

  

Raffaele Zingone  whose name is spelled Fingone on Ellis Island transcriptions was born about 1889 and arrived in New York in 1914.  He travelled on the ship "Verona"  Since this manifest is not on Ellis Island I have no further information.

Domenico Zingone left Montalto Uffugo  at the age of 28 to sail on the ship Stampalia which arrived in New York on March 6, 1914.  This would put his birth year at about 1884.  The manifest lists him as going to see his friend, Pasquale D'Amato.

ZINGONE DESCENDANTS IN THE UNITED STATES

Fiorentina Zingone Filippo Corrado with 5 of her 10 children.  These children are the product of her second marriage to Pasquale Corrado

I have also been in contact with 2 ladies in the United States whose great grandmother's were Zingone's.  Fiorentina Zingone and Maria Stella Zingone are the children of Pasquale and Serafina Bisceglia.  The sisters married brothers Carmine and Diego Filippo from the nearby comune of San Vincenzo La Costa.
