I am making this page to help you understand and navigate through the records I currently have available and the state civil (Stato Civale) records of Italy. Here I will explain the records available through the LDS libraries, as well as what the town has that you may request. I will also have basic translations of the form portion of the records to help you read them. I will also provide links to the actual records. Please be patient as this is a work in progress.
The LDS Microfilms
The Later Day Saints (LDS) have the largest geneacological collection in the world. It is part of their religious beliefs that you can be reunited with your ancestor's in heaven, but you must know who they are first. So, as they saw precious records that held the key to finding these ancestors deteriorate to time, war and disasters, they began their attempts at copying everything they could get access to and making it public to everyone. They copied church records and vital records from all over the world and made them available to the public through microfilm and fiche through libraries located in their churches throughout the world. About The Stato Civile records
The state civil records began during the rule of Napoleon Buonaparte around 1809. In all the countries he ruled, he required that records should be kept pertaining to births, deaths and marriages in a certain format. The result of that requirement in Italy is the Stato Civile, still is use today in modern Italy. These records are required by law. They differ from other records also kept by the government. These records are referred to as "acts" not certificates. A birth certificate in Italy does not contain much information other than the date, time and place a baby was born and the baby's name. A birth act (from the state civil records) contains this information plus both parent's names, address or section of town they lived in, the parent's ages (in some cases only the father's age), their father's name (in some cases only the father's fathers name) and both parent's professions. Also on this record is the names, occupations and ages of several witnesses. The witnesses are often family or close friends. All of these state civil records contain the information of more than 1 generation.

Marriage Records
Pubblicazione
The state civil records contain 2 different records for each marriage. The Pubblicazione (also called Notificazione) is a marriage bann. All couples were required to complete their Pubblicazione at least 3 weeks prior to the actual marriage. This was posted in public and if anyone objected to the marriage they could do so prior to the actual wedding and had 3 weeks to object. Because of this, some of the people that have Pubblicazione's were never actually married. As you view the extracts of the Pubblicazione's available here you will see some of the same people listed more than once.
The Pubblicazione includes the following information on the couple:
Full names of the couple
Ages of the couple
Professions of the couple
Place of residence
Marital status at the time (if they were widowed)
Their father's names, ages, professions
Their mother's full name and profession
At least 2 witness names, ages and professions

Translated this is the marriage act. This record was recorded in the comune's state civil office after the actual marriage took place. This is the only reliable record available that the marriage actually took place.

The death records are a record that a person died and will not give a cause of death, but do contain other important information. This information includes the name of both parents and the last spouses name, the age and occupation of the deceased and where the person died which often includes an address or street name.
